The Singularity to be the theme of a movie by Christopher Nolan

The upcoming technological singularity will soon be thrust into the popular media thanks to ‘Transcendence’, a movie produced by Christopher Nolan. The movie will feature Johnny Depp, who plays a character that will have his mind uploaded to a supercomputer with the aim of making the first true artificial intelligence.

Johnny Depp seems to have been on an increasingly odd career trajectory as of late; maybe then people might see this movie as unrealistic. It is actually predicted by many scientists and futurists though that events such as those which will take place in the movie are actually an inevitability, and may occur within 35 years.

Very littler is yet known about the movie though.

All we know so far is that the script strongly features the technological singularity, artificial general intelligence, nanotechnology, and anti-technology terrorists (terrans).

Transcendence¬†has many different definitions, but for this movie it seems likely that it will translate to ‘lying beyond the ordinary range of perception’, which is what will occur at the time of the¬†singularity.
